My dad is one of the most hard working, compassionate, amazing people i know. He commits completely and always happily gives above and beyond.
He works in a care home for young people.
Yesterday two assaulted him. Looks like one has broken dads rib - he’s in so much pain today (trying to hide it but even he can’t hide that much pain), and the other has claimed that dad assaulted her.
Result?
Investigation into what dad has been accused of.
That’s it. Nothing else.
Seriously.
WHAT kind of care system is this? ”we care for you so much we’re going to hide you from the consequences of your actions so that when you get into the real world you’ll get slammed in jail for assaulting the first person who doesn’t do what you want them to do”? SERIOUSLY. There are no real consequences, so instead of caring for young people, they’re condemning them to become worse than they already are.
Condemning them.
It’s not just. It’s not just for the young people, who are already from disadvantaged situations. It’s definitely not just for my dad, who’s 60 and caring and in pain, who gets no compensation. It’s not just for workers in general, who fear when kids are going to “kick off” because of what could happen to them as any type of self defence could end in an allegation. Allegations can cost jobs. Who’s going to want to risk that in this climate?
It’s not right that i fear my dad going to work. I genuinely am scared for his safety if i know he’s there. Because he always acts to protect, which always puts him in the line of danger.
There’s no protection for staff at all, and so much for young people that it’s detrimental to them.
I’m so angry, justice is such an important thing to me. And there is none here. I don’t think i’ve ever been so angry. Something has to be done. And if no-one speaks out then nothing will be done until a worker gets killed. I genuinely think that’s a realistic statement.
Which leads to the question. Who is going to speak out?
